The Future 42 project is a joint effort between the City of Lafayette and the City of Louisville to improve the State Highway 42 (CO-42) corridor. The project will make the corridor safer, more accessible, and easier to travel for everyone, including people walking, biking, taking transit, and driving.

Key improvements include:

  • Safer streets for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists
  • Expanded multimodal facilities for walking, biking, and transit access
  • Greater accessibility for people of all ages and abilities
  • Optimized speed limits to improve safety and comfort
  • Future-ready infrastructure to support Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)

The project spans from Pine Street to Paschal Street and is designed to address the current and future needs of residents and the traveling public.






At the second community workshop (February 24, 2022), attendees were asked to rank potential alternatives based on their components after they were presented by the project team. Email: future42project@gmail.com

  • CO-42 Survey Baseline Road Intersection Alternatives

    The City of Lafayette needs your help. We are looking at ways to improve how people travel along CO 42, whether they walk, bike, drive, or use transit. This project builds on the Future 42 planning effort completed in 2023.

    The goals of the project are as follows:

    • Improve safety for everyone using CO 42
    • Make walking and biking more comfortable
    • Keep traffic moving efficiently


    To help further the above goals, the design team has developed two options for the intersection of CO-42 and Baseline Road. The short survey below will help the design team better understand the priorities of those traveling on CO-42.
