Lafayette Urban Renewal Authority (LURA)
The Lafayette Urban Renewal Authority (LURA) is the lead public entity that promotes the revitalization of Old Town Lafayette. LURA works in partnership with the City of Lafayette, private property owners, and businesses to remove blight, rehabilitate existing structures, attract new mixed-use development, and improve streetscapes to create an inviting and vibrant downtown.
In the late 1990s, Lafayette residents submitted a petition to the City Council for the formation of an urban renewal authority to address the deterioration and blighted conditions of Old Town. Following a blight study and public hearing, City Council approved a resolution establishing the Lafayette Urban Renewal Authority in April 1999.
Today, the City has two urban renewal districts: the Old Town District and South Boulder Road District. LURA is a seven-person board appointed by the Mayor of Lafayette.
