Project BackgroundDon't Worry About A Thing, Because Every Little Thing Is Gonna Be Alright mural

760 W Baseline Road is located at the intersection of N. Carr Avenue and W. Baseline Road. The Lafayette Urban Renewal Authority (LURA) originally purchased this Property with the desire to construct a pocket park owned and maintained by the City of Lafayette. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the City Administration reevaluated priorities, resources, and expenditures, and determined it could no longer be a maintenance or programming partner. Since the site cannot be used for a city-owned park, LURA is ready to reimagine the site and sell the Property.

Why is LURA selling the Property?

It is not typical, or desirable, for an Urban Renewal Authority to own property for long periods. Because of this, LURA wishes to sell the Property through a competitive biddingprocess called Invitation to Negotiate where we ask individuals or teams to submit a plan and proposal. In 2022, LURA conducted community outreach to develop Guiding Principles to show what success may look like without being overly prescriptive of the exact project we want to see. Lafayette is a creative community, so we’re interested in what proposals teams come up with.

Will the existing buildings remain on site?

The existing buildings were demolished in May 2023 so a new building can be constructed on-site.

What will happen to the mural that was on the building?

LURA is working with the muralist, Tif Choate, to find a new location to repaint the "Don't Worry About A Thing, Because Every Little Thing Is Gonna Be Alright" mural.

Demolition Update - May 2023

Going, going, gone! Goodbye old building at 760 W Baseline Road. The property is getting cleaned up and ready for sale. Interested purchasers are encouraged to respond to the Invitation to Negotiate which will be made publicly available soon!

Pre-Demolition Update - May 2023

Changes are coming to the corner of N. Carr Avenue and W. Baseline Road. Over the next few weeks, you will see demolition crews working at 760 Baseline to remove the building and prepare the site for sale. We do not anticipate any disruption to roads or sidewalks.

Fire Department Training at Storage Lockers - May 2023

The Lafayette Fire Department will use the storage lockers for training purposes, between now and May 15th. They will conduct various simulations and exercises to prepare for emergencies; using an existing structure is highly beneficial for our personnel.

During this time, you will notice an increased presence of fire department vehicles and personnel. We assure you that the training is conducted in a safe and controlled environment and will take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of our community.
