Survey Background and Instructions

In the summer of 2025, the City of Lafayette gathered community input to guide the vision for the 701 Pocket Park. Residents shared that they want the park to be:

  • Welcoming and peaceful
  • Playful and kid-friendly
  • Rooted in nature with plenty of shade and greenery
  • A community hub for gathering, dining, and picnicking
  • Creative and artsy to reflect Old Town Lafayette’s character

Based on this feedback, the design team created a preferred concept featuring what the community valued most:

  • Play areas for young kids
  • Shady seating and picnic spots
  • A mix of plants and trees
  • Spaces to relax and enjoy

Naming Survey

Thank you to everyone who participated in the first phase of the park naming process.

In the initial survey, community members shared the types of themes and qualities they felt the park's name should reflect. The strongest themes included:

  • A connection to Old Town Lafayette
  • Nature and the environment
  • A welcoming and inclusive community space
  • Lafayette's history and heritage

Using this feedback, along with the City's park naming guidelines, staff developed a shortlist of finalist names. This survey asks for your feedback on how well each name reflects the vision and character of the new park. Community input will help inform a recommendation to City Council, which will make the final naming decision.
