Community Visioning Workshop - Virtual Input

The South Boulder Road Area Plan process is in the Visioning and Testing Phase. We held a community workshop on July 23, 2026 to share initial big ideas for land use, connections, parks and public spaces, and character based on input about issues, opportunities, and key values as well as initial market analysis and existing conditions analysis. Activities at the workshop were designed to facilitate conversations and for the team to understand community preferences for the future vision of the area. 

Participants viewed an overview presentation by staff and the consultant team and then broke into four discussion groups around the key topics of Guiding Principles & Big Ideas, Connectivity (Transportation and Mobility), Land Uses, Form, and Massing, and Public Space & Experience.

The Big Ideas

Connection in the South Boulder Road Area will be enhanced to connect the north section of the area to the Coal Creek Trail. Connecting existing bike and pedestrian routes, developing new paths, and improving walkways and sidewalks will enhance access to destinations within the area and beyond.

The Area Plan is divided into four Character Areas, each with a unique identity and key amenities. Examples heard in the workshop included the Central area serving as Lafayette’s Central Arts District and the South area providing outdoor gathering spaces and parks along Coal Creek.

The edges of the Plan Area, running along the major roadways of 287 and Public Road, serve as locations for thoughtful development that welcomes people to the Character Areas and optimizes movement adjacent to and within the Plan Area. 

The Big Ideas and design concepts work in tandem to enhance connectivity, safe movement, economic development, and access to recreation and gathering places. Together, the concepts stitch together the area as a unique place, connected to adjacent neighborhoods, local schools, public services, and downtown Lafayette.
